Traveling through New Mexico we decided to take a scenic route. Moving along miles of dry road skirting around lonely mesas, we passed a familiar site. "I've seen that mountain! Georgia O'Keefe paints one just like it in her work!" Next sign I see is for Ghost Ranch: the Home of Georgia O'Keefe. This was her mountain, her Pedernal. It is beautiful. At that time of day it was dark against a sky that went up forever and was rooted in slabs of green and rust. No wonder she lived there with those colors and lines waking her up and putting her to bed every day. You would have to tell their story.
