There are moments in our past that have been such significant turning points, humbling surprises, or eye-opening experiences that we have marked them as a type of memorial in our lives. They reside as captured moments in our minds that we desire to forever remember and relive. I wanted to take one of my memorial images and put it on canvas so that our family could see it and share the experience with others. I had a candid photo of that moment and used it as a reference for the artwork, employing my own loose impressionist style and incorporating papers, words, and lines that spoke even further into the significance of the moment.
I would like to offer that same visual memorial to others and, from a photo, create a piece of art that takes a captured candid moment in time and sums up the story with both an image and words.
Original Mixed Media Painting Commissions
I primarily use acrylic paint in an impressionist style and would be working from a candid photo you provide. I like to incorporate words or images that give greater insight into the uniqueness of the moment. For these commissions I am working large, with sizes starting at a minimum of 30” on each side.
Due to the nature and purpose of this type of commission, there are guidelines for the provided photo. Photos should be candid photos* (no posed or studio photos), in color, and clear. You can provide several photos for reference if they are of the same moment. In other words, I am not interested in pulling elements from several photos to create a scene that never actually took place.
* Candid photos capture life moments. Typically, figures are turned away from the viewer because it has captured someone in the act. It’s real, truthful, and an actual snapshot of life. ** Please note: If you desire a painting of a posed or studio photo, I would encourage you to find an artist who specializes in turning photo portraits into paintings. There are many who do. However, that is not the purpose of this particular type of commission.
Process: You will send the photo(s) for me to view with an explanation of the memory. We will agree on a size and orientation of the canvas that best fits the moment you desire to capture. I’ll gather more details on the significance of the photo and will begin the painting process. The final product will be a beautiful moment captured in mixed media on a large wrapped canvas, finished and sealed, ready to hang.
Cost: 30x40 -> $1800 + tax 36x36 -> $2000 + tax 36x48 -> $2600 + tax 48x48+ -> $3200 + tax
Price includes shipping. 50% is required for a deposit and the balance is due at final approval before shipping.
Time: Once the deposit is received, allow a 3-4 week turnaround time, depending on current workload.
