UPPER OR LOWER PATH

Surveying the horizon on this bridge between where I’ve been and where I’m going, I have to choose. Upper or lower level. I can’t take both. I can tell you now, I’ve been upper for a while where the landscape is vast in every direction and the paths overwhelm me in number and possibility that I am often wandering and wasting steps in despair. The air moves me here, moves me there, lacking nothing anywhere except for testing. Do I know that I need you on this upper level and am I even aware that you have not left me to my own orientation. I sense an invitation to go low. Humility. Where is my security if I descend? I sacrifice horizon views to following you on a path where my shoes are wet and cliffs block any vision of a Point B. I can’t see on the lower level, but can only watch my step as I navigate through rocky debris fallen from above. Down here, in the shadow valley, your river turns right and left and the depths of the flow vary so that I am dependent on your eyes, your yes and no. My guide. The only sky I view is right above me and you, but already I am full. Not fearful, just full. I was made to live in a place you cut through.
(Job 23, 1 Peter 1:6-9)
