AMONG THORNS
I have lines all about me, lines I’ve drawn, lines I’ve woven to protect. But they are tender, easily damaged. They are tender, easily burned. I’ve earned nothing but fear. Danger is always near. Hiding inside a dark place. I woke today to hear you say six times that you keep me. You keep me. You have hedged me about with your thorns. Your lines cannot be broken, you have spoken and I am preserved… somehow. One attack could do me in, but you’ve been marked again and again for the sake of one who forgets. Oh, remind me where my nest is set. (from Psalm 121)
