YOU’RE GONNA RUN
What sends me running these days is sparked many times by an aching desperation for clarity. There’s a little “crazy” in those eyes fueled by fear. To pause seems to lend oneself to danger. So you run.
The books of Hosea and Joel in Scripture concern people bent on running. “They sow the wind and reap a whirlwind. My people are bent on turning from Me.” And after He lets her run, the Lover groans, “How can I give you up?” As the prodigal–the runner–desperately hits the pavement, eyes burning with tears, Love woos her back. “Even now return to me with all your heart!” He will not leave until she sees clearly and desperately runs into the arms of the one who cared for her in the wilderness.
Why does God not give up on me, run away? Because I am His. This wild-eyed road runner doesn’t deserve this and yet He is mine.
