TO THE END
I’ve wanted to do a series of work on Passover and have been thinking through the different parts and their significance to the unveiling of Christ. Especially in a time where the simplicity of Christ is lost in the noise and chaos perpetuated today. Can we lift up our eyes?
Jesus gathered at the Passover table, on the night when He would be led away, and “having love his own, he loved them to the end.” No one took his life. He laid it down.
“To the end.” In Greek, “eis telos.”
This mixed media piece is of cyclamen, picked and gathered together in contrast to the dark in which it is displayed. Cyclamen is a wild flowering plant in the Middle East that symbolizes deep love. Its meaning is departure and is often gifted at goodbyes. It’s a perennial that flourishes among the rocks in the winter and “departs” in the spring. It was good to paint this gorgeous bloom that surrenders itself in order to bring life again.
