PILGRIM’S SONG

Canyons are different than mountains. Summits are flag-bearing victories that end in descents. But canyons are for pilgrims. Every load-bearing step down will require a surrendering step ascent at some point. Psalm 121 is one of the Songs of Ascents or “Steps.” It’s the song of pilgrims, of sojourners. When exposure exhausts and the end is more difficult than the beginning, I life my eyes. He is the shade at my right hand. He is “the God who has been my shepherd all my life long to this day.” He is my canyon keeper. “Our exits and entrances [in every canyon] are under one protection.”
