A large storm had rolled in and it brought back countless memories of living in the country and stepping outside to smell a pending storm. Soon after the sky would darken and heavy, over-burdened clouds would pull over us like a blanket. It’s one of my favorite smells, giving a hint of what’s to come.
In this painting, I wanted the home and land to be small, yet present receivers of what was to come and to feel the clouds pushing their way through like a wall.
