WAY HOME

Picture
Through a curtain of tears, she told me she just wanted to go home. I immediately began holding fast her pain and exhaustion of this place. That’s what we do when the longing for our true home is better than anything we can attain or carry on this sojourn. We help pick up the battered pack and the scattered belongings and dreams of our traveling partners and place their hands on our own pack straps and move on. “Let’s just take one step at a time.” Through gold sun sands that weight your shoes, around and over red rocky terrain that beats your knees, all the way beyond purple plateaus that steal the oxygen from your lungs. Because somewhere between here and there it will be me who says “I can’t go on” and you will give me your straps and compel me onward. This is the way of sojourners. Where we are going is worth every step in this place.
